BASIC DESIGN STUDIO

About

Basic Design Portfolio

 This portfolio is including two different basic design works of Kadir Has University. First one is DECODER. In this one , we analyzed sounds, notationS, pitchs , softness or brightness of music pieces. Second one is HİGH ABOVE THE GROUND.It is about living spaces for some aims and jobs.Indeed, created a village and it contains many living spaces which are connected each other.And main aim is how do we create living areas in small spaces.So, this work includes different forms ,functions for living.

Portfolio

//DECODER//

expected to translate approx. 15 seconds of a music piece into a shape organisation.Musical compositions are comprised of layers of sounds,called tracks,modulating in time following a rhythm. Analyzing the sounds, how they change notes,pitch, their softness or brightness etc. and abstracting these characters by drawing them, hence creating a notation will be central to the exercise.Drawing abstract sections creating a 3D abstract  model is the goal of the task. End product will probably look like a musical sculpture frozen in time.

Hildur Ingveldardóttir Guðnadóttir[a] (born 4 September 1982) is an Icelandic musician and composer. A classically trained cellist, she has played and recorded with the bands Pan SonicThrobbing GristleMúm and Stórsveit Nix Noltes, and has toured with Animal Collective and Sunn O))). She has also produced solo works.

Aims :

Thinking by drawing

Exploring form giving parameters

Designing by parameters

Translating 2d to 3D

Designing with contraints .......

This song is a classical music and it is including some sharp pitchs.Sometimes we can realize some rising in the notes so tried to drawing these pitches provided some colours and shapes.

If you look deeply this sheet , you can realize it is contains notation and section drawings for seconds of music piece.All of these shapes from the notation indicates softness , brightness,sharpness and feelings actually.So, in first part of the notation shows to us nagative spaces and gathering together these shapes for occuring one shape and then we provided lights for last part of notation. Such as,  in 12-16 seconds, if we can listen , we can notice the rising so, in this part,red and green lights are gathering together and occuring yellow light like sunrise.

Also , you can see axonometric drawing in tis part.Separated again these seconds like a 3D model of this music piece. Finally, end of this sheet , emotional drawings shows to us how do we feel ?? When we were listening it :)))

//HİGH ABOVE THE GROUND //

Expected to design a sleeping-working-production unit of approx 25m3 size attached to a wall, which is a part of a larger constellation of units designed by your peers. The reasons of living vertically attached to an existing or imaginary wall will be developed by students and mentors of each group. All spaces must be designed as small as possible using the available quota efficiently, considering ergonomic, climatic, structural and material issues. Closed, semi-open and open spaces must be available for the residents, in relation to private, semi-private and public spaces. You will decide to design a single capsule or a group of capsules made of modular units. The final works will be exhibited online using a large format connected elevations of all vertical villages.

Aims:

Circulation, vertical circulation design.

Programming spaces.

Material knowledge and construction technologies.

Space saving design.

Designing with constraints.

My main goal in this project is to think like an energy engineer, to collect water and to transfer these waters as energy to the living spaces I created. In particular, we have been frequently encountering this issue lately, because our water is running low and we can use these waters in many areas.

Since our main purpose is to collect water, the shape of the triangle was generally used. However, the pointed parts were softened for a more organic and aesthetic stance. There are two layers in the created living area. On the first floor, there is a bathroom, a kitchen and a work area. On the second floor, there is a bedroom. There is a water converter under each house. The collected water can be used to increase soil yield in the garden and to provide energy in general. Transportation from this living area to other living areas is provided by stairs.
